Shutterfly sweepstakes

Okay all my scrapbooking friends: thank Freebies 4 Mom for this heads up:

Quaker is offering the "Book of Life Sweepstakes" as a promotion for Life cereal. You can enter daily until June 30 for a chance to win an 8"x8" Shutterfly Photo Book, there will be 5,000 winners! I thought this sweepstakes would be worth entering since there are so many winners

If you win the free Shutterfly Photo Book, you will still need to pay shipping for it. I just redeemed a free photo book offer I received previously, and shipping cost me $7.99. It was still well worth it for me because I make photo books as gifts for upcoming celebrations like Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Can you believe that more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year? Those are staggering statistics, but there is hope. Each of us can do something to save lives and help those already fighting this disease. That's why I've decided to take action against cancer by supporting the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® event right here in my community.

Relay For Life is an overnight event that brings our community together to help support the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. The Society works hard every day to prevent cancer and save lives by supporting groundbreaking research, affecting public policies that protect us from cancer, and educating people on how to prevent or detect cancer early. The Society helps people with cancer right here in our own community. And our efforts at Relay For Life can help the American Cancer Society to keep working toward a cancer-free future.

I want to invite you to show your support in the ongoing fight against cancer by joining us for this year's event. Please click on the link below for more information, including details on the inspirational Survivors' Lap and the moving Luminaria Ceremony. We hope to see you there! If you can't join us, will you please visit the site and make a donation to support our efforts? Either way, you will make a real difference in the lives of people facing cancer and in the lives of the people who love them. Thank you!

For state fundraising notices and the American Cancer Society's Privacy Policy,

please paste this link into your browser: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/SU/su_0.asp

My Reason to Relay is to join people around the world in celebrating those who have survived cancer, remembering the people we've lost, and supporting the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society. Would you help? Can you make a donation to my team? If so you are helping deliver the hope that future generations will not have to endure cancer threatening the lives of their friends and family. We all have the power to fight back against a disease that affects millions.

Spring Break....

The boys have been home since last Friday -
Matt has had jury duty Since last Tuesday-
Unfortunately that made it impossible for us to go away as a family for Spring break

but not impossible for the kiddos to enjoy their time off of school
Here is an account of what we have done so far:

Friday spent the afternoon shopping for Easter Clothes
okay it was a little late considering it was Good Friday but it was also a payday
See why we waited! We had a lite lunch at the mall food court and then took Zach to a friends so he could go to the movies, the rest of us met up with Dad at Kensington's main campus for their Good Friday service.

Saturday of course we spent coloring Easter Eggs. I took Micah to Tyler Millers house for an Easter Egg hunt, the older three do not seem to e into that any more But Micah enjoyed him self. You can see pictures from that event here.

Sunday it was back to Kensington for their Easter Celebration this time to the Clinton township campus and they did a fabulous job! For dinner mom made a great Ham thanks to the Honey Baked ham company.... it was a long time since we had one of those!

Lets see Monday we had a video game kind of day, and just plain vegged out at home but then Tuesday Zach had drivers training - Aaron and Noah went to crossroads youth group and then came home with a third child (how does that happen?) Ron came and spent the evening and the following day with Noah. There is a field in the back of our house and a small section of woods, the boys have created a little fort out there, Ron, Noah and Micah spent hours outside on Wednesday- by Thursday I found a cooler with snacks and juice boxes. It was very cute. Had it not been for Thursdays snow, they would have spent more time out there. Yes I said snow, can you believe we got another 3-5 inches, it is the end of March for goodness sake! It is not suppose to snow! Anyway Noah having a fried over then led into Zach having Steve and Nick over - which in turn led into Aaron having Joel and Tyler here right now- oh let me back up did you know that on Tuesdays at Beemerz it is 3 dollar game day? We played 10 games of Lazer tag for $30.00 it was nice since one game is usually 7 dollars- Tuesday we each played two games- except for dad- he is still on jury duty:(

So I have 4 of my own plus + 1 + 2 +2 = 10 ! Ten boys over the course of a week ....my refrigerator is empty!

Micah is the only one who has not a friend over. It has not been for lack of trying. He has called his friend Scott a few times but they must be away. Normally he would call back in a heart beat but we have not heard from him yet. We might try bowling today, I don't know- 4 of 6 from last night are still sleeping:) maybe I will break out a puzzle - I have no pictures from any of these days but Zach did take the camera with him when he and his friends hit the Romeo Skate park ( a free skating zone in Romeo) maybe I will post some of those. What did you do for your break?

Experiencing the Ressurection

Sick kids, Micah ears are infected again, causing a low grade fever. Laundry piling up, 4 kids will do that to you. Kitchen floor begging a mopping. Easter baskets to fill. Emails to return. Bills to reconcile. Posts to write. Sick kids needing momma at all hours of the night. Doctor to visit. Yesterday,Today. Tomorrow. Next week. My best laid plans are futile. I can schedule, pray about, and orchestrate my time to my heart's content, even building in margin and anticipating the unexpected, but the reality is, I'll never be in control.

Why, then, do I continue to believe I am, only to end up frustrated by my inability to finish off the to do list and feel the relief of accomplishing something?

I know the answer. Because I've yet to fully understand and practice what it means to trust the Lord completely with everything in my life, AND my self-worth/identity is still wrapped up in what I do instead of who I am in
Christ.
It is time to yield, again, to the lesson at hand and give everything right back to the Lord. The sick kids. The limited time. The responsibilities, big and small. The desires of my heart. Knowing that this is what I must do is so much harder than doing it. I must swallow my pride and let go of expectations. I must trust that God, the Sovereign Lord I truly love will take care of every last detail. I must practice what I preach -- to set my eyes on Jesus, focus on and follow Him throughout my day, casting aside my plans for later and tomorrow. I must be willing to say, I can't do, instead of I can do -- all the while trusting the Lord to do all things, strengthening me in the process.

It is the delicate balance between wisdom and belief. It is the "all things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial" see-saw

.One of the tasks on my list is to complete a review of "Experiencing the Resurrection: The Everyday Encounter That Changes Your Life" by Dr. Henry Blackaby and Melvin Blackaby for Multnomah books. I'm about half way through , and truly enjoying the read, yet it keeps finding itself covered by papers on my desk, hidden underneath the folded laundry on the couch, and pushed aside to culddle with a feverish child. Somehow, it's place seems exactly to be what Blackaby is talking about. He writes,
"As a Christ, you're to be a witness for Christ--a visible demonstration of every truth God has said. But the religious culture in which we live encourages us to just practice religious activity. As a result, we misunderstand our relationship with God and miss out on experiencing His power....But, as Christians, we're children of Go! If we're faithful in a little, He can make us rulers over much. You've been given the opportunity to function in the realm of resurrection power--the most exciting life you could ever imagine. What then could God do in your life if He knew you were wholly yield to Him?"

I want to yield to His work instead of my own. As the celebration of Christ's resurrection approaches, I pray we all will look beyond the Jesus Loves Me, This I Know, for a greater understanding of what it meant for Christ to lay down His life for us -- that through His death, we have the very life we cling to.

As I focus on that in my own life, I'm going to lay down things this coming week that are of much worth to me. I'm going to yield to the Lord's work, instead of mine. In the absence of doing the things I consider important and of worth, I hope to reflect on the power of the resurrection and experience its truth on my life.

What does the resurrection of Christ really mean for us? What does it reveal about the heart and mind of God? And what real differences can the miracle of the resurrection make in your life today?

I have done everything I know to do to get past this time of trouble and transition.

Now it is time to stand in faith, trusting HIM to bring forth the fruit of HISpromise to bring me through this fire purified.
All that will be consumed by the fire will be my bondages, for this fire will produce the greatest liberty that I have ever known. I must only cooperate and move with the flow of the Spirit that will bring me to spiritual freedom. I must quiet my mind and be done with fantasy and presumption on every level, so that I can be completely led by HIS Spirit .

Do not be afraid. Ephesians 6:11-15 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

My life as a soccer mom

  • YOU KNOW YOU ARE A CRAZY SOCCER FAMILY WHEN....... ..
  • You have owned every style of camping chair ever made. ...
  • You have never met a linesman that knows how to call off-sides properly. ...
  • . ...Your kid takes a bloody wallop on the nose, and your first thought is that he needs to quit crying or be subbed because we're running out of time in the game. ..
  • You know where every elementary school, jr. high, high school, college and park with a soccer field is in the metro and you know where the closest Starbucks, bagel shop and Subway is to each of those fields ...
  • You know how to get to all of the above without getting lost. ...Your gas credit card bills are bigger than your 2nd mortgage ...
  • All of your vacation time is taken up by soccer events. No more beach vacations, unless your team gets invited to Surf Cup.
  • ...You know the closest grocery store to the practice fields because that is where you do your shopping ...
  • ...There are posters of Englishmen and Brazilians in your house. ...
  • ...You've forgotten where you go to church. ...
  • Your child's "good shoes" are her newest soccer cleats ...
  • You and your spouse spend all weekend driving to soccer games. In different cars & in different counties & with different kids. And talk on the cell phone only to compare scores. And don't see each other until Sunday night. ...
  • The kids on your team are 'feis ty', while the kids on the opposing team are 'dirty'. ...
  • You have been to several cities in the country that have wonderful tourist attractions, but while in these cities you have seen only soccer fields, hotels, rental car counters, and airports. ...
  • The mats on your car's rear floor are never free of dried grass and black turf pebbles. ...
  • You as soccer parents have a strict rule about "no removing shin guards inside of the car", Phew ...
  • You look forward to Monday so that you can go back to work/school and relax. ...

You have not celebrated your anniversary for 3 years because it always falls on a practice or game day. .... ...

On the rare weekend when your child does not have a game you look for something soccer related to do like going to the games of your friend's children. ...You begin to use words like football, pitch, boots, sides, fixtures and tables in a way that totally befuddles your non-soccer friends and family. ...

Your closest friends are those that you've met through soccer. . ..
You can recognize the most national team jerseys and the majority of major European club jerseys on sight ...when you register on a soccer forum.

When you wish you had bought stock in igloo because you own every shape & size of cooler and water bottle... ...When someone asks you how old your child is, you respond, "he's U15"

...you drive home from t he game complaining bitterly about the condition of the field and its adverse effect on your kids game only to pull into your driveway and have your spouse point out the 14 inch high grass which has not been mowed in 2 weeks
