This letter came home today

October 10, 2007

Dear Romeo High School Students/Parents/Guardians:

This is an informational letter regarding the situation that took place on October, 9, 2007 at the Romeo Engineering and Technology Center. Per district policy, all students and staff were safely evacuated due to a written bomb threat. The written threat stated that the bomb will be going off on 10-12-07.

Please be assured that the district is following all crisis response procedures and protocols. Macomb County Sheriff deputies and the K-9 Unit responded to the call on October 9th. A search was completed and the building was cleared by the officers. This letter is also to inform you of several procedures that are taking place during the remainder of the week, to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
The Macomb County K-9 unit will be returning to the building to complete an additional search prior to students’ and staff arrival on Friday morning.
All students entering the building will be subjected to a search of their belongings (backpacks, book bags, purses, coats, etc…).
School administration would like to encourage students to not bring any bag(s) or large purse(s) into RETC, to assist in expediting the search of the students.

This is a matter that Romeo Community Schools takes very seriously. School personnel will be investigating this situation and those responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our primary concern. It is important that parents discuss the seriousness of this matter with their children so that everyone understands the severe consequences for this action. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.

Sincerely,

Michael Kaufman Amy Gole
Principal Assistant Principal/RETC
