World Hope is monitoring the devastation in Haiti following a major earthquake near its capital Port-Au- Prince.
Around 5:30 pm on Tuesday January 12th a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit just 10 miles west of the capital city, where more than 2 million people live, several powerful aftershocks followed the inital quake.
According to preliminary reports we received on the ground extensive damage has been sustained on the ground near the Wesleyan hospital of Gonave but the hospital is intact.
World hope is monitoring the situation and preparing to respond with emergency supplies and assistance.
we received word from the country representative Thony Querette he is okay but he asked for prayer, we do not know the status of our other staff or beneficiaries in the capital area
